An intimate retreat with 4 spacious suites, the safari operator’s eighth luxury camp sits on the edge of Moremi Game Reserve
The art of safari is headed to new heights in the Okavango Delta with the opening of
Kanana Nyana on October 15, 2026. The eighth luxury camp from Ker & Downey Botswana, a purveyor of bespoke safari experiences, Kanana Nyana occupies an elevated location overlooking the Xudum River and expansive floodplains on the western edge of Moremi Game Reserve, one of the region’s most productive wildlife areas. Expert-led activities range from walking expeditions, game drives, and mokoro outings, all designed to reveal some of Africa’s most revered wildlife within some of the Okavango Delta’s finest landscapes, while meticulously crafted accommodations host just eight guests at a time, making the camp a rewarding destination sure to stir the passions of seasoned adventurers and first-time safari-goers alike.
“Kanana Nyana is a return to what safari is meant to feel like: intimate, personal, and completely immersed in the wild. With just four tented suites, it offers a rare and authentic connection to the Okavango Delta, where time is given to observe, to understand, and to appreciate rather than move on,” said Kim Nixon, COO of Ker & Downey Botswana.
It’s our philosophy that reveals itself in the smallest details. “Whether lingering a little longer at a remarkable sighting, following an aardwolf back towards its den, or quietly watching an elephant bull stretch high for baobab blossoms on the edge of a grassy floodplain, guests are encouraged to slow down and engage with the natural world on its own terms. These are the moments that transform a safari into something truly memorable,” he added.

Guests Set Their Own Pace
Each excursion is shaped by curiosity, intuition, and a deep understanding of the land. Guides read the moment, reconnecting guests with this ancient wilderness through tracking, interpretation, and meaningful encounters with its wildlife.
The Ker & Downey ethos remains unchanged: exceptional safari experiences in truly wild places, enhanced by thoughtful comforts and understated luxury. At Kanana Nyana, guests set their own pace, and memories are defined not by consumption, but by connection.
Fittingly named after the Setswana word for “small,” Kanana Nyana offers a contemporary interpretation of the safari experience that Ker & Downey Botswana has been refining for nearly 60 years. An exceptional location, attentive service, meticulous attention to detail, and immersive wilderness and cultural experiences, led by some of the region’s finest local guides—many of whom grew up in the Okavango Delta—combine to create an African adventure that is both deeply personal and authentically wild.
Each suite features a king-size bed and expansive windows framing sweeping views of the Delta.
Four Suites, Four Trees
The design of Kanana Nyana is inspired by the natural beauty and cultural heritage of Botswana. Four individually styled and impeccably private thatched suites feature weathered timber entrance archways and a palette of textures and tones drawn from the surrounding wilderness, including sage green, pale yellow, and dusty pink. The interior design of each suite pays tribute to one of the region’s iconic trees: the Marula, Sausage Tree, Jackalberry, and Sycamore Fig.
Designed for two adults, each suite features a king-size bed and expansive windows framing sweeping views of the Delta. Outside, a spacious wooden deck provides a private sanctuary, complete with a plunge pool and a cooling thatched sala, a place of friendship, connection, and belonging in the wilderness. It is an ideal setting in which to enjoy a morning coffee, savor evening sundowners, or simply pause and reflect on the wonders of the natural world throughout the day.
The camp’s generous shared spaces encourage guests to come together, with beautifully designed and distinct areas for dining, relaxing, and socializing. Culinary offerings celebrate both local ingredients and Botswana’s rich flavors. Delta-inspired cocktails infused with lerotse melon and vanilla syrup sit alongside premium Botswana beef, renowned for its quality and provenance. Fresh produce is sourced through suppliers who prioritize locally grown ingredients whenever in season, while regular themed dining experiences showcase traditional favorites such as seswaa, pap, and morogo.
An on-site gym is equipped for both cardiovascular and resistance training, while personalized wellness treatments can be enjoyed in the privacy of each suite, delivered by highly skilled local therapists.

Exploring the Okavango’s Waterways
Beyond the camp, expertly guided safari experiences invite guests to explore the shimmering waterways and vast floodplains of the Okavango Delta. A fleet of two safari vehicles—each accommodating a maximum of four guests despite having six seats—ensures ample space for wildlife viewing and photography. Mokoro excursions offer a more tranquil perspective, as guides gently pole traditional dugout canoes through meandering channels and reed-fringed waterways. Nearby, the renowned heronry provides one of the Delta’s most remarkable spectacles, with as many as 70,000 birds congregating between May and October.
The diverse habitats surrounding Kanana Nyana support an extraordinary abundance of wildlife. Lion, leopard, elephant, and African buffalo are regularly encountered, while cheetah and African wild dog also roam the region. Antelope species include springbok, tsessebe, impala, and the Okavango Delta specialist, the red lechwe. For bird enthusiasts, the Delta is a paradise, with more than 500 recorded avian species.
Taken together, Kanana Nyana embodies Ker & Downey Botswana’s philosophy of delivering “real safaris,” expertly guided, deeply immersive journeys offered with understated luxury. The company balances exceptional wildlife experiences with a steadfast commitment to conservation and the preservation of Botswana and Zambia’s natural heritage, while continuing its long-standing investment in the sustainable empowerment of rural communities throughout northern and central Botswana.
With Kanana Nyana, Ker & Downey Botswana deepens its roots in the Okavango Delta, demonstrating that, after nearly six decades, the art of the authentic safari continues to evolve—refined by experience, grounded in place, and inspired by a profound connection to the wild.
