Atzaró Okavango Camp Encourages Travelers to Embrace Adventure, Conservation, and Artful Living
in the Heart of Botswana
Created between African Bush Camps and Atzaró Group,
60-acre camp on the banks of the Okavango River
celebrates wildlife and culture
Join in a magnificent tribute to the continent of Africa amid UNESCO World Heritage-designated nature at Atzaro Okavango in Botswana. Newly opened in mid-April via a partnership between African Bush Camps and Atzaró Group, the 60-acre sanctuary set between rivers, lagoons, and dry land on the edge of the Okavango River welcomes 24 travelers to experience sustainable luxury, conservation, and the art of luxury living within the landscape of the Okavango Delta and the rich cultural heritage of Africa.
Crafted by Victor Guasch of Atzaró Group and African Bush Camps’ founder Beks Ndlovu, the camp pays homage to various tribes across Africa. It features artworks and crafts from Benin, the Congo, Ethiopia, and the Tuareg people. The camp is a living museum adorned with ten monolithic river stone statues, each representing a tree commonly found in the Okavango Delta.
Raw Beauty of Wilderness
Atzaró’s architectural ethos embraces the privilege of space and the raw beauty of the wilderness through natural elements, from wood to leather to canvas, accentuated with splashes of greens and blues. Eight Suites and two Villas sized 1,740 sqft and 4,130 sqft, respectively, are meticulously designed with repurposed tree roots, canvas, and natural crystal rock. Each Suite boasts a private plunge pool, indoor and outdoor showers, baths, and air conditioning, while the Villas also feature private fire pits and sky beds for falling asleep under the stars. A communal pool area, spa, and gym with panoramic views are open to all, as is a tearoom overlooking the Delta with a subterranean wine cellar that is perfect for private dining occasions. The camp’s boma overlooking a tranquil channel is designed to be reminiscent of a giant bird’s nest, with a fire pit and space for cocktail gatherings and dining. The ancestral boma pays tribute to the custodians and five tribes of the Okavango Delta.
Entirely off-grid, Atzaró Okavango is powered by a solar farm and equipped with a biorock sewage system to ensure the circular return of clean water to nature. Common areas, including the main lodge, spa, gym, gallery, observation deck, tearoom, wine tasting room, cellar, yoga, and sunset lounge, feature traditional thatched roofs.
With its commitment to authenticity, excellent guiding, and outstanding care, the African Bush Camps team ensures that every guest feels welcome at Atzaró Okavango and gets the most from their time on safari. Knowledgeable guides are seasoned experts in the field, ready to accompany immersive safari days, including game drives, night drives, walking safaris, and serene mokoro excursions in a region rich with wildlife, including elephants, buffalo, lions, leopards, giraffes, lechwe, and hippo, and enough avian species to make the hearts of even the most well-traveled birders soar.
